Unreal Engine 5 tech demo uses 'film-quality' assets, runs on today's hardware

The Unreal Engine 5 is releasing next year, and Epic Games has a new PlayStation 5 tech demo called Lumen in the Land of Nanite to show it off. The unveiling created quite a splash in the world of gaming and received a lot of hype last week. A preview of the Unreal Engine 5 will be out in early 2021, with the full release coming late in the year.

MCV/Develop: It’s IN the game

Bidstack’s VP of Gaming, Charlotte Cook, talked to MCV/Develop’s editor Seth Barton about how in-game advertising can be used for the good of society. She discussed the DCMS ‘Stay Home, Save Lives’ campaign which was delivered in partnership with Codemasters, the good that in-game advertising has done during the lockdown and the potential this new revenue stream can offer to game developers.

Grand Theft Auto free download crashes Epic Games store

In January 2020, Epic Games planned to give away free games every week for a whole year. The games are available for PCs and Macs. This week’s 'mystery game' was Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) and within minutes of making the game free, the swell of demand caused the site to crash. The crash lasted several hours and seemed to also affect other Epic Games titles such as Fortnite and Battle Breakers.
